Lee Alexander McQueen
Fashion isn’t something we usually cover on this site, but the works of Lee Alexander McQueen are more art than anything else. He pushed the edge of what we tend to view as clothing. In the above pieces he uses clothing to imitate nature, and in doing so shows the artistic merit of those subjects. As his website describes his work,
“Integral to the McQueen culture is the juxtaposition between contrasting elements: fragility and strength, tradition and modernity, fluidity and severity. An openly emotional and even passionate viewpoint is realised with a profound respect and influence for the arts and crafts tradition.”
Perhaps, what makes his work so beautiful is that he took money and practical means out of the equation. As he is often famously quoted, “British fashion is self confident and fearless. It refuses to bow to commerce, thus generating a constant flow of new ideas whilst drawing in British heritage.”
